Meet Allen Miotke, Director of Automation Engineering at Hyper Solutions
Allen Miotke didn’t just step into a new role at Hyper – he stepped into a challenge tailor-made for his expertise. With a background spanning transformer design, CAD engineering, and operations leadership, Allen brings the kind of cross-disciplinary thinking that’s essential to building automation from the ground up. Just seven weeks in, he’s applying years of hands-on experience to help accelerate what’s possible for Hyper’s future.
A Mind for Systems, A Heart for Problem-Solving
Allen’s career started with a Detroit-based company designing transformers and control cabinets. That work eventually brought him to Richmond, where he shifted into busway system design and began building deep relationships in the power space – including with future Hypers. Over the years, he expanded into leadership roles, first guiding engineering teams at a CAD reseller, and later overseeing both manufacturing and engineering for a railroad equipment company.
He stayed in touch with a number of Hyper employees, watching from afar as the company gained momentum. When the opportunity came to lead automation, it felt like a natural next step. “It was a chance to bring together all the skills I’ve built over the years – from engineering and operations to leadership and process improvement,” he says.
Originally trained in automotive engineering, Allen has always been drawn to the intersection of mechanical and electrical systems. The pace and potential of the data center space felt like the right evolution.
Momentum with Purpose
Allen thrives when there isn’t a playbook. Whether it’s designing a new workflow or figuring out how to automate a complex process, he’s driven by the challenge. “I love solving puzzles,” he says. “And Hyper has no shortage of fun, complicated problems to work on.”
But it’s not just the work – it’s the energy. “Everyone here is focused on doing things better and faster than they’ve ever been done. That level of drive is rare – and it’s contagious.”
And it’s not abstract. Allen finds real purpose in knowing his work helps the organization move. “When I can help us go further, faster – that’s what keeps me going.”
The Mindset Behind the Momentum
Allen’s transition into Hyper was made easier by the support around him. He’s quick to point out how the company invests in its people – through tools, training, and trust. “They give you what you need to succeed – no questions asked.”
His advice for new team members? “Dive in. Hyper does things differently, and there’s a lot to absorb — but it’s worth it.” The value that resonates most for him is simple: Limits are for suckers.
“I dislike the idea of being stuck or backing down because something seems out of reach. Hyper encourages the opposite – to stretch, build, and find a way.”
Putting the Pillars into Practice
Do the Right Thing, Always.
“I reflect on how my actions affect others, and if I make a mistake, I own it. That’s how you grow – by being honest, staying accountable, and constantly learning.”
Be Smart, Move Fast, Build Things.
“Learning never stops. I keep up with industry trends, ask questions often, and draw from the experience of those around me. It’s about staying sharp and staying curious – and being ready to build.”
Limits Are for Suckers.
“I take on things that stretch me, even if they’re outside my comfort zone. That’s where growth happens.”
Making, Tinkering, Exploring
Outside of work, Allen gravitates toward hands-on projects and real-world problem-solving – whether it’s camping by the river, off-roading in his Jeep, or tackling an escape room with his family. A lifelong car enthusiast, he’s rebuilt several vehicles over the years and takes pride in improving something piece by piece. “There’s something really satisfying about taking something apart and putting it back together better,” he says.
Lately, that mindset has made its way into his home. For the past year, Allen has been designing and refining a smart home automation system, controlling nearly everything from a tablet. “It’s an ongoing challenge – and one I really enjoy.”
Forward, Always
Allen is the kind of person who doesn’t just dream about improvement – he builds it. Whether he’s leading automation at scale or learning a new skill outside of work, he brings the same mindset: curiosity, ownership, and forward momentum.
He may not have mastered an instrument (yet), but he’s mastered something harder – knowing how to lean into discomfort, push through complexity, and make progress where others pause. And that makes him a true builder in every sense of the word.
